Cat, I’d particularly like to thank you for your personal and indepth context for Bassho and this particular haiku. However in the late Heian Period, the Kamakura government destroyed it. I can envision this haiku popping, fully formed, into the poet’s head just as the wind hits her. The cat stalks its prey, makes its kill, and leaves it to others to contemplate.

I regret that now.
